The global student mobility program has returned, with students traveling to Australia and Belize.

After a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students at Vancouver Island University (VIU) are once again able to participate in a global talent exchange program between Canada and other Commonwealth countries.

Wealthsimple Foundation and VIU partner to deliver $20,000 bursaries to Canada Learning Bond-eligible students.

Vancouver Island University (VIU) and Wealthsimple Foundation are teaming up on a new bursary program that aims to make post-secondary education more accessible for modest-income students.

Having as little as $500 set aside for post-secondary education can sometimes make all the difference between attending a university program or dismissing it as out of reach.

Receiving financial help changed Kyla Hanington’s life and the lives of her children when she was at university; now she wants to give back to families in similar situations.

There were many times when Kyla Hanington was close to giving up on her university education.

Every time this happened, the single mother of two received a timely scholarship, bursary or award that served as encouragement, as “a promise that it was okay to keep going, that I was doing the right thing.”

Janelle Minoza has overcome a number of obstacles standing in the way of her post-secondary education since becoming a student at Vancouver Island University last year.

Five Vancouver Island University (VIU) students will have the opportunity to make a difference internationally this spring thanks to the Canadian Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Scholarship (QES) program. 

“The QES gives our students the opportunity to collaborate with international partners on pressing issues facing coastal communities around the world,” says Jennifer Sills, VIU’s Education Abroad Manager.

To meet the high demand for jobs, VIU is doubling its capacity for Early Child Education and Care program for the September 2019 intake. Students can receive up to $4,000 per semester for their studies in the ECEC program.

Working with children has always been a passion for Summer Lin. 

“I worked as an ESL teacher for eight years in Taiwan. When we moved to Canada, I knew I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to build more one on one connections with children,” she says. 

The value of public libraries goes well beyond the multitude of books lining the shelves. 

Assessing the role that libraries play in contributing to community completeness and increasing? quality of life, and how this can, in turn, help marginalized urban groups is what Vancouver Island University (VIU) Master of Community Planning student Dylan Thiessen aims to determine.
