Four VIU Teams Top the First CCAA National Rankings of 2022

Say it four times for the first time: the VIU Mariners are number one.

According to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Vancouver Island University Mariners have "made history" by topping four CCAA national rankings simultaneously in women's basketball, men's basketball, women's volleyball, and men's volleyball.

VIU Mariners Women's Basketball Program Launches Training Centre

Striving to grow the game and support female athletes, VIU Mariners women’s basketball coach Tony Bryce, with the support of the Mariners coaching staff and student-athletes, is creating a training centre to encourage female athletes ages 12 to 18 to get out and play.

“We are very excited to build the VIU Mariners women’s basketball family,” says Bryce. “While skill development will be an integral part of the new training centre, players will also feel the community we build here at VIU.”

The VIU Mariner Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams will compete for gold at the CCAA nationals.

The VIU Mariner Men’s’ and Women’s Volleyball teams will compete for gold in the CCAA nationals. 

The VIU Men’s Volleyball team ended the season on a high note by scoring gold at the PACWEST championship. The team hasn’t won gold at provincials since 2007.
