5 Questions with Kristie Dewald

After teaching for two decades, Kristie Dewald, a VIU Accounting Professor and Chartered Professional Accountant, took on the challenge of co-authoring a textbook. Advanced Financial Accounting in Canada, first edition was published by Pearson Canada in 2022 and is co-authored by Nathalie Johnstone, an accounting professor at the University of Saskatchewan, and Cheryl Wilson, a professor at Durham College in Ontario.

5 Questions with Chris Burnley

VIU Accounting Professor Chris Burnley says there’s a certain perspective that comes from “teaching hundreds of accounting classes and seminars.”

And it’s this perspective that has helped Burnley, who has taught at VIU for 22 years, author and publish a third accounting textbook. His first two books, Understanding Financial Accounting, and Financial Accounting: Tools for Business Decision-Making, are in use at more than 60 post-secondary institutions across Canada.

Alum of the Month: Daniel Gardiner

Vancouver Island University (VIU) Bachelor of Business Administration graduate Daniel Gardiner’s hard work has added up to a successful career at an international accounting firm and, recently, a rare accolade – earning a spot on the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada’s 2018 National Honour Roll. Gardiner, who graduated from VIU in 2016 and is now a Senior Accountant with KPMG Canada in Vancouver, scored in the top one per cent of the more than 6,000 Canadians who wrote the 2018 Common Final Examination – the final step in becoming a Certified Professional Accountant.
